Apple’s “Pro and Tell” Event Is This Week. Should You Buy a Mac Now or Wait?

Apple has announced a product event called “Pro and Tell,” taking place in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28. It’s expected to start around 10 a.m. Pacific, according to reports. Apple hasn’t said what it will announce, so everything below is rumor until it takes the stage:

What’s rumored

  • MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen. Apple’s first touchscreen Mac would be a big change for a laptop line that has never had one.
  • Refreshed 14-inch MacBook Pro. “Refreshed” means the same basic design with a newer, faster chip.
  • New iMac, its first update in about two years.
  • Refreshed iPad Mini.

Stores are not expected to have these until November.

Should you buy now or wait?

Should you wait for the new Macs before you upgrade? It depends on your situation.

If your Mac is failing, or your work can’t wait

Buy now. The current lineup is solid, and a Mac that crashes could cost you more in lost productivity than you’d save by waiting for a lower price.

If your Mac is three or more years old and still works fine

Wait a week. New models often push prices down on older ones, and you can compare real specs rather than rumors.

If you have an older Intel Mac

Start planning. macOS 27 requires Apple silicon, and some Intel models will get security updates but no new features. You don’t have to rush, but don’t ignore it.

If you want the first touchscreen model

Expect a premium price. First versions of anything often have quirks.

Memory prices matter right now

RAM and storage costs have jumped sharply this year, and shortages are expected to last into 2027 or longer. Higher prices for new models would not be a surprise, so a configuration you want today could cost more later.

Help with your upgrade and setup

If you want help deciding when to upgrade or what to get, our technicians can help you make an informed choice based on your specific situation.

Choosing the Mac is only half of it. Moving everything over is the harder part. We can:

  • Set up your accounts, backups, and security
  • Get your printer, Wi-Fi, and accessories working

We’ll update this post once Apple announces what’s actually coming.
